This week...
The Algorhythm dissect giant beetles, almost-destroyed love letters, Murakami, and Radiohead.
Beginning with some inspired analysis into Kafka's Metamorphosis (1915).
For those unfamiliar, "The Metamorphosis" tells the story of Gregor Samsa, a young man who wakes up, transformed into a giant insect. Understandably, poor Gregor grapples with his new insect body, and not just on a physical level, but rather one of emotional and psychological turmoil.
Through the work, Kafka explores alienation and the absurdity of human existence. Gregor's transformation serves as a metaphor for the dehumanizing effects of modern life and the struggles that come with maintaining authentic identity.
Continuing on from this, we discuss Kafka's famous love letters to Milena, the woman he loved, but never met. We highlight lines from the letters which we feel are the most charmed... particularly the slightly less romantic and more questionable excerpts.
Finally, we discuss why lovely Gregor, with the "clawlike, fidgety, unsteady hold-cold hand" has risen as the front-man ambassador for the esoteric and intellectual meme.
And, of course in true Algorhythm fashion, throughout our discussions, we will be playing you our most favourite Gregor Samsa, Kafka-esque soundtrack... what would be featured on Milena Jesenská's Spotify wrapped...we wonder?
